To market, to market

I was going to go to the Eveleigh Farmers’ Market with the Phillipses today but they had a last minute double booking, so I arranged to go with Aoise, who is visiting from the States with her family and staying in Newtown.  I was running late, but needn’t have worried because of course any household that includes a toddler and a baby will take a while to get organised.  I had a pleasant leisurely chat with Jamie and his dad while the others got ready and then we all trundled down the road to the markets.

Eveleigh Farmer's Market

We got there around 10ish, I think, and there was still plenty happening (it’s open from 8am-1pm every week).  It was crowded, but not to the point of claustrophobia, as the markets are set up in one of the old carriage workshops with skylights and one open side.  So it was airy and light.  I hardly knew which stalls to hit, there were so many beckoning me.  After a quick stroll up and down, the Stratford-Lloyds took their leave to go on their lunch picnic, and I took my time to wander up and down the market with my nanna trolley.

Aoise and Gwen buying bread

So here is what I bought:
  • pumpkin bread from Shepherd’s Bakehouse
  • mandarins, pink lady apples, garlic, onions, rhubarb and shallots from various organic growers
  • rocky road muesli from Whisk and Pin
  • a selection of little gluten free cakes and a tomato and prosciutto scroll from Manna From Heaven
  • a frenched lamb rack from Mirrool Creek Lamb*
  • some delicious orange juice which I drank as I wandered (can’t remember the name of the stall)

I wrote a little bit

I was going to meet up with the Phillipses for lunch at Cafe Ism, so I walked back to the park opposite the cafe and thought I’d write for a while.  It was very pleasant lying in the sun, enjoying the brilliance of the blue sky and the intensely green grass.  But after a while I started feeling nauseous (I’ve been getting waves of nausea on and off for the past week) so I SMSed them to say I had to go home, which was sad as I was looking forward to catching up with them.  But I’m sure we’ll all manage to get together soon and hit the markets en masse.  I’ll definitely be back.  Wanna come too?

* I cooked the lamb for an early mother’s day dinner, and it was the most delectable lamb I have ever eaten.  A tiny bit more expensive than what you’d buy at the shops, but worth every cent.  We finished the meal with Connoisseur strawberry ice cream and a Manna From Heaven cake.  A perfect meal!

    what's it all about?

I'm a Christian. I get absorbed in lots of different pursuits, and my attention frequently gets snagged on whatever latest shiny thing pops into my view. I write, I sing, I design, I read, I edit, I make things, I play WoW, I play piano, I try and record music. And I struggle with depression. This blog is about all these things. And probably other things as well.
